So here’s a math problem for all the Chavez students out there in Richmond…
Mr. Brandow goes to the store to buy a bottle of soda. A 2 liter plastic bottle of soda costs 20 pesos. A 1 1/2 liter bottle of soda in a returnable glass bottle costs 30 pesos the first time, but if Mr. Brandow returns the glass bottle when he buys his next bottle of soda, it only costs 12 pesos.
1) How much is the deposit for the glass bottle?
2) What is the average price per liter for each bottle of soda?
3) If Mr. Brandow buys one bottle of soda each week for a month, which will be more economical: the soda in the plastic or glass bottle?
4) Mr. Brandow can also buy a liter of freshly squeezed orange juice at the store next door for 8 pesos. Should he continue to buy the soda or the orange juice instead?

Mr. Brandow -
Of course if you have the option of freshly squeezed orange juice at 8 pecos as opposed to the 1.5 - 2 liter bottles of soda for 12 - 20 pecos, questions 1-3 are of no consequence since you obviously will be purchasing the much healthier orange juice!
I know I'm not one of your students, but I just had to reply. hahaha
Love you - your Kansas Country Cousin Pats
