Our first weekend in Morelia, we stumbled upon the most beautiful floral tapestry I have ever seen, which opened up the International Music Festival in Morelia. Actually, I’ve never seen a floral tapestry before, but it made a real impression upon me.
This floral tapestry was a collection of a nearly one hundred images made from probably a hundred different types of flower petals, arranged on top of sawdust, stretching out for – and I’m not exaggerating here – at least 200 yards along the Calzada de Fray Antonio. (The same carless street where people walked on their knees for the Dia de la Virgin de Guadalupe – see post from December 16, 2006.)
I have no idea who nor how many people constructed the floral tapestry, how long it took, or where they got the flowers. I’m hoping this won’t be the last one that we see, and I’m wondering if anyone in the Bay Area has experience designing and creating one…
